These are the must-haves for the overwhelming majority of party rental companies — and the category with the most competition and the tightest margins. Buy them well, then differentiate somewhere else.

Which is exactly why the folding chair is the most competitive, lowest-margin thing you own. There are four ways out, and only two of them are any good.
The oldest and least creative move. Lower prices lower margins — you work harder for less profit, against a competitor who can do the same thing tomorrow.
Pick it up. Return calls the same day. Answer the email. You will be surprised how many competitors won't do this — and it costs nothing but discipline.
A chair your competitor doesn't own is business they cannot quote. This is the cheapest real moat available to a rental house.

A rental item gets handled roughly eight times per event— pulled, inspected, staged, loaded, delivered, set, struck, washed — and the client who hired you wants you out of the way as fast as possible.
